Compared to the powerful, even somewhat aggressive, strength of previous years, the 2021 Grange exhibits an unprecedented level of restraint, refinement, and sophistication. It continues the classic "cross-regional blend," using 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, and Clare Valley, and aged for 18 months in 100% new American oak barrels (two months shorter than the 2020 vintage).

A More Refined Symphony Color: Deep chestnut/purple heart.

Aroma: Compared to previous years, the toasty and coconut sweetness from the American oak barrels take a backseat, providing better support. The glass overflows with pure aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, black plum, licorice root, and crushed coffee beans, interwoven with notes of cooked meat gravy, golden tobacco leaves, violet, caramel, and sophisticated ink and graphite minerality.

Palmistry: The wine is round and remarkably precise. Its tannins are silky smooth with a subtle slate-like graininess, perfectly enveloping the bright, natural acidity of the relatively cool spring of 2021. Despite its grand and rich body, it exhibits an impeccable, tightrope-walking balance, culminating in a long, clean finish.
